A jack-of-many-trades, master-of-none!
I moved to Roswell in 1977, the family relocating for my dad's career. Except for 2.5 years on St Croix, USVI, metro Atlanta, more specifically North/Northwest metro, has been my home ever since.
I am blessed to be the father of 3 wonderful daughters, and the husband of an amazing wife - they all have to be crazy though to put up with me!!! My interests are varied, from high physical exertion on the soccer pitch to sitting on the couch playing on my Xbox, from skiing the slopes in the mountains to dipping my toes in the sand with my wife.
But one of my favorite things to do, is to be on the go. I would prefer to just throw a leg over the R1200GSA and hit the fire and forest service roads; or climb into the cab of my Silverado and hit the interstate (she's so big and heavy and solid it feels like I'm floating); or slide behind the wheel of my wife's little E Pace for a jaunt thru horse country. Just the act of moving along seeing different things when I'm on the road is therapeutic for me.
I suspect the same for many of you as well!
When I was an early teen, I met someone that would turn out to be my best friend, and the Best Man at my wedding.
Sometime around 30 years old, he was diagnosed with ALS. Watching my best friend deteriorate was excruciating, knowing he was fully cognizant but just stuck there in bed. It absolutely broke my heart. And when he finally passed, I was relieved he no longer had to suffer.
A group of us that grew up together went to see him a few times, the last being a few weeks before he passed. As hard as it was to see him like that, I would have never forgiven myself had I not gone to say goodbye. I forget what age we were when he passed, it's got to be closing in on 20 years now, but it will always feel like it was yesterday.
I mention this only to let folks know, a portion of the profits of this event will be donated in his honor to ALS Georgia. I ask that if your heart feels compelled, please donate to this amazing charity working diligently to find a cure for this terrible disease. If not ALS Georgia, please donate to the cause of your passion. RIP Mike McKay!
